Effects of Alcohol | Effects of Alcohol on Your Body
Effects of Alcohol on Your Body -
Alcohol’s impact on your body starts from the moment you take your first sip. While an occasional glass of wine with dinner isn’t a cause for concern, the cumulative effects of drinking wine, beer, or spirits can take its toll. Alcohol has its own effects and it on the first sight goes unnoticed but the time changes and so does your body.
Effect according to age
The fact is that families, friends, and healthcare workers often overlook their concerns about older people drinking. Sometimes trouble with alcohol in older people is mistaken for other conditions related to aging, for example, a problem with balance. But how the body handles alcohol can change with age.
You may have the same drinking habits, but your body has changed.
Effect on Children and Young People
Everybody has its own working and the working process. In the same way everybody has its own reaction to everything that one eats and drinks. According to many observations done in
Shri Shuddhi Deaddiction Centre, Bhopal it is said that as the mind and body of the children and youngsters is still developing, so the drinking can have long term consequences.
As the teenagers go through many hormonal changes, are often very aggressive, consumption of alcohol will only boost up the aggression and other emotional reactions. This is a very big reason that there is a particular legal age for buying and drinking alcohol in every country. In India it is 21, in almost every state. In Kerala it is 23 and Goa has the minimum age limit of 18.
Effect on Adults
The need and effect both change with time. As one steps into the category of adult the needs, reaction and ability to handle things decrease. Everything changes with time and age. The bodies limit to process alcohol is less when it comes to adults. Much lesser amount of alcohol is enough for you to get high.
Effect on elders
As the body grows to one of the final stages of life, there are many things that depreciate alongside. As people get older, the amount of water in their bodies declines and so does the amount of blood in their system. Because of this, elderly people will reach higher levels of BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) more quickly than they once did and a smaller amount of alcohol can have a more pronounced impact than it did previously. Elderly people are statistically more likely to be taking the medication, and a need to be aware that mixing these with the alcohol may change or counteract their effects.
Nasha Mukti Kendra in Bhopal, respects the age of the patients and give the treatment accordingly.
Effect according to gender
Every human body is having their own limit and reactions when it comes to alcohol. In the same way alcohol has different reaction on different genders.
Effect on women
Women have the lower limit of handling alcohol as compared to men and so are the effects that are different amongst men and women. It’s clear from a number of large-scale studies that there is a link between alcohol consumption and cancer. There are many reasons that state why even if a woman and a man drink the same amount, the woman’s blood alcohol level will almost always be higher than the men. One reason is even if a woman is the same weight as a man, she will have a higher blood alcohol level if she drinks the same amount as that man. A 2014 report by the World Health Organization concludes that around one in five (21.6%) of all alcohol-related deaths are due to cancer. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women so it’s important to be aware of how drinking alcohol can increase the risk of developing the disease. There are several effects that are faced by men when it comes to alcohol. Not just lungs and livers are affected but several other things get in the way too. Alcohol affects the sexual performance and fertility too. Alcohol reduces the testosterone levels. It reduces the quality and quantity of the sperm. Being a regular drinker won't only mess with your physical appearance but it will also create a gout and many long-term health problems. Alcohol depresses the central nervous system which means it can make it difficult for some men to get, and keep, an erection.
Effect on Pregnant Women
Alcohol has its own and at times sever effects on the pregnant women. The one thing that we need to keep in mind is that it not just a woman we are talking about but also about another life growing inside her.
Pregnancy
Drinking while one is pregnant can affect the baby a lot as the systems are connected. The baby inside is still developing, physically and mentally, and drinking during this period can invite physical or mental disorder. Any alcohol in your blood will flow across the placenta and your baby will end up with the same Blood Alcohol Concentration as you.
Breastfeeding
Though it is best to avoid drinking during the time your baby needs breastfeeding. If you drink just before or during a feed, you can pass the alcohol along to your baby which may cause them harm and affect their development. As per the research it is best to wait at least one hour after drinking each drink as it takes one hour at minimum for the adult body to process one unit of alcohol.
